Victoria Baker- she's young, British, she's gorgeous and super talented...is she the next Katherine Jenkins? The main difference between them is that Victoria can actually sing- I mean REALLY sing!
I first heard her about 6 months ago at Carnegie Hall in NY and she blew me away. What a revelation! For one thing, she was a lot 'trendier' and 'cooler' than your typical operatic soprano. Wearing a low cut, form fitting red gown when she first stepped onstage the usual crowd of stuffy, classical music buffs actually perked up and I heard some "oohs and aahs". She's got a warm, rich sound full of expression. In fact, it was her deep connection to the music that impressed me most. She's got the Operatic vocal chops but she doesn't think like an opera singer- more like a Pop singer. When she sang the Habanera from Carmen she held the last note for about 1 minute and a half, with a sublime pianissimo and then threw a rose out to the audience! They went wild! Especially fun was her rendition of Franz Lehar's "Meine Lippen Sie Kussen so Heiss" as she took off her Opera gloves and threw them into the audience.
She was fun but she was great too! I tried to find out more about her. The real revelation was about two weeks ago when I checked out her MySpace page. Filled with Crossover/Josh Groban-esque and Andrea Bocelli like tracks- I was amazed at her versatiliy. But don't take my word for it, she's already got well over a million profile views. www.myspace.com/vikyb
An amazing talent and a breathtaking beauty...what can I say, I'm in love!
To all you anti- Katherine Jenkins listeners out there...Victoria Baker may be the answer!

As to your comment that Victoria Baker is the "New" Katherine Jenkins I must beg to differ...Miss Baker is Miss Baker and Miss Jenkins is Miss Jenkins. Compare them or contrast but to say one is "taking over" the style of the other is I feel a little uncomfortable for all involved. As being a teacher/performer myself, to showcase Miss Bakers fine points of performance is very admirable and understandably, is good for all to see but also as one who knows of Miss Baker's character knows that she would feel very uncomfortable being seen as someone out to "conquer" the career of another very important person in the world of opera. Although your words are well intentioned and are taken with great sincerity and good intent, please let each of these very outstanding performers stand on their own well earned merits. Thank
you.

I saw Miss Baker perform about three months ago at a private function honoring Henry Kissinger. She only sang three pieces, but suffices to say, the audience and myself were blown away, she is undoubtedly ‘The whole package’. I would speculate; Miss Baker, singing ‘Three Blind Mice’ could evoke a standing ovation, at the very least bring a tear to the eye.
To compare her to Katherine Jenkins, as one blogger has, is discourteous to say the least. They are, quite frankly - incomparable.

I'm an American who was living in Paris where I saw Victoria sing on the French TF1 television show "Sept a Huit" and she was absolutely incredible! The TV Host said she was English but she spoke French perfectly?
Since then I have been looking for more information about this incredible talent. After searching, i found her wikipedia page, which had this blog spot as a reference. Her IMDB page has some amazing pictures, but little other info about her. I want more details! I know she is classically trained, but she does crossover like nobody else. I've seen David Foster on her Myspace page, and wouldnt be surprised if they were working together. I've found some really hot pictures of her in one of those New York Society Magazines and those on her myspace page, but I just can't seem to get enough. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
